This Saturday (19th December 2009), Radio Relay is going to feature a highly innovative and refreshing progressive house set by Madrid based DJs/Producers DRUGSTORE.  This is no ordinary turntable or software produced output as the set we are featuring was recorded live at Madrid’s Taboo Club on 14th March 2009.  What makes this set so special is the live use of trumpet and drums to accompany and enhance the electronic music experience and depth of sound in the club itself.  DRUGSTORE have produced something truly stunning and emotive here which has to be heard to be believed.  Radio Relay is committed to bringing you sounds the likes you have never heard before (or rarely hear on FM radio) and we are honoured to be able to bring you this set by DRUGSTORE.  A big, big thank you to Alberto, Fran and the DRUGSTORE crew for the heads-up on this set and permission to broadcast the recording.  For more info on the collective, please visit the DRUGSTORE soundcloud and myspace pages.  During the show we also hope to bring you a sweet selection of Netlabel sounds from other electronic artists.  Definately not one to be missed!

img_elektrosouls_2009This Saturday 14th November 2009!

Seven weeks into the Radio Relay project and things really seem to be hotting up.  Over the past three weeks the show has featured some truly awe inspiring mixes and tracks from independent artists and labels involved in the underground electronic music scene.  With the help of resident DJs 8FX, Mezerik, 1Dan and the contributions of DJ/Producers from all over the world, the quality of our output has reached a level never anticipated at the start of the project.  To celebrate in style this week’s show will feature the work of artist Samuel James from the new Elektrosouls label.  Trading under the manifesto “Electronic Sounds for Electronic Souls”, Samuel James and Mick Welch (read their profiles here ) set up the Elektrosouls label in September 2009 with a debut first release for Mick Welch – the Morphological Construct E.P. – delivering an amazingly deep 4 track tour de force drawing on the essence of Detroit techno and a wide range of other influences.  Interviewed on the Electronic Directory in Septenber 2009 (read the interview here) the artists discuss the motivations behind the project and hint at future releases by themselves as New Town Soul and output by Jaime Read.   Radio Relay will be following developments at Elektrosouls closely in anticipation of more superb releases.

A preview of the next release will soon be available on the site (click on logo above) and be sure to check out the mixes section featuring exclusive mixes by the artists themselves and other guest DJs.  For access to more mixes, past radio shows and other updates visit the Elektrosouls Forum .

In talks with Samuel James, Radio Relay was informed that the Elektrosouls radio show on Basic.ch is scheduled to make a long-awaited comeback.  No date has been set but we will let you know as soon as we get this info.

This week’s mix by Samuel James is a smooth and deep techno set which picks up nicely from where we ended last week’s show.  Describing this latest addition to our winter techno series, Sam said “I think my main idea for the mix was to incorporate different styles of electronic sounds that I like at the moment from certain net labels and throw a couple of classics in for good measure!” Tune in this saturday to check out this stunningly refined mix.

This Saturday Radio Relay #6 features two mixes by Brighton based DJ/Producer 1Dan.  As explained on his Myspace page

Dan has been djing for the past 13 years, cutting his teeth on the Leeds techno circuit back in 1995, then reaching London discovering the delights of deep house through the Heart and Soul parties circa 98/99. Since then he moved to Brighton continuing on to secure a residency with the Psyclik collective and playing internationaly in South Africa, France, Glade Festival and the Rocket Festival in Hong Kong. Stepping up productions in last couple of years, he continued playing at underground parties in and around Brighton. Aswell as rocking parties as a DJ, Dan has been honing his skills as a live performer with two amazing live sets on the go, the first being the deep house set, the second being KEY, a techno set. Both sets are comprised of Dans own compositions and are performed 100% live using hardware sequencers, synths and FX, allowing the freedom to improvise unique sets everytime.

Tune in to The Source FM 96.1 4.30-6pm Saturday 7th November (LISTEN HERE) for a smooth selection of house, tech, downtempo, dub techno and some truly phenomenal mixing.  There will simply be no better alternative on your FM dial this saturday!

Mez Oh my gosh! Tonight’s show was absolutely firing from start to finish thanks to exclusive output by Mezerik and 1 Dan.  I am honestly surprised security were not called up to Source FM tonight.  The place was rocking!
